Can I drive there in a 2x4?
The road to Zithulele Hospital tarred the whole way, but the road down to Boto Village can be a bit rough and will require a 4x4 if it is wet. So rather leave your car at the top and walk it or bum a lift.

Only crockery and cutlery are provided, however no cooking facilities or braai area. So either take advantage of meals provided by the family or bring your own gas stove and consider it indoor camping.
Can I give sweets or money to the children?
Please, please, please don't. It causes major problems which we are then left to deal with. It encourages a culture of begging. If you want to give please contact Roger or The Jabulani Foundation, an NGO operating in the area.
How do I find the Homestay?
Driving from East London on the N2, about 20km before Mthatha take the Coffee Bay road to your right. Almost exactly 50km from the N2, take a right at a sign to Zithulele Mission Hospital to your right. If you are going to leave your vehicle at the hospital the follow the road till you get to the hospital itself, drive past the main gate turn first left and park at the hospital accommodation. Otherwise 2km before Zithulele Hospital there is a rough dirt track to your right (and a small yellow MTN container on your left), take that track and drive slowly till you pass the second cement slab section. About 300m on, you will see a wood sign with a big "M". The homestead is the cluster of buildings on the hill on your right. Look for a red roof and elevated rain-tank.
